The last chapter gives ways that climate change will affect you directly, esp. as young people who will be going into the work force, investing in property, and planning for the future. I'd like you to continue to share changes that you have made already or want to make in order to decrease your carbon footprint. But I'd also like to know if you have taken global warming into account regarding choices about where you'd like to live or what you'd like to do for a job.
Also, this week, I'd like you to share what you have learned spending the second half of the course discussing climate change. How has the reading and/or our discussions changed, or not, the way you think about climate change?
Being completely honest I still haven't taken actions on climate change but if i were to id probably start by riding a bike instead of a car if I had to go to some place that isn't that far from my house. My future career doesn't have a lot to do with climate change therefore is something that did not even crossed my mind, buying a house though in the future maybe could be an issue.
ReplyDeletethere have been various changes I made in my life that helped decrease my carbon footprint. those include walking, or riding my bike more often to places that I normally take the bus to, and helping my mom with various errands so she doesn't need to waste gas. with the second half of the course dealing with climate change I've changed my views on the matter each time we've continued along. before we've dealt with climate change I wasn't too focused on it, but after having done assignments related to climate change I find myself wanting to know more and more about climate change.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Guyana. My country is hot all time around. I've always seen myself wanting to move Florida and living close to the beach. It's lovely in Florida around the beaches. Unfourtantely I don't think i'd be so rich to constantly to lose my entire investment and need to rebuild. Reading about the sea-level rise in warm areas and effects have me second thinking about my future decisions.
ReplyDeleteclimate change is a topic that isn't really discussed all that often. I dont know why but it should be because how we act now will determine if we would live or die as a species. I havent done any thing in particular to decrease my carbon foot print but it is really hard to do so because everything around us revolves around technology and industialization which causes climate change. But what I can say is that I wont drive my car unless I have too and I will try my best to monitor myself.
ReplyDeleteSince climate change happened, the weather became strange. If I have chance to choice where I can live, I will choice countryside. Because if I live in a small town, I could ride or walk instead of driving. And also because the weather in countryside is much clearer than city. For job, I think more and more young people will choice the work related to the environment. Climate change impact environment, and it also affect human's health. I am studying in nutrition, so I think nutrition will become more important for people.
ReplyDeleteReading this book has definitely changed my perspective on how I want to excel my career. As an architect I have the opportunity to build without destroying and I have the power to come up with new ways to improve and control climate change by building our homes and places we live in, in a way it will benefit not only us but our planet as well.
ReplyDeleteYes the reading and class discussions have changed the way I think about climate change. Before I did not care about climate change I barely knew what it meant, but now I do know what it is. This reading has thought me what is climate change and how it can affect us. The discussions in class help me better understand that in our homes there are ways in which we save energy.
ReplyDeleteDuring half of the course discussing about climate change changed my thoughts about this huge topic. At first, I barely talk about climate change because of lack of interests and knowledge. Even my family doesn't talk about climate change because they didn't know what really climate change is because in our home country Bangladesh people weren't that aware. However after writing an essay, doing many research and reading a book based on Climate changed my mind and made me more aware of this huge issue. Climate change is a huge chain reaction of disasters, causing many problems to another. For example, I love animals and they are in great endangered by climate change, such as polar bears in Antarctica. Also my country Bangladesh is heavily affected by climate change. It creates more humid weather, floods, and very hot weathers.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there hasn't been many changes in my home I usually do my best in avoiding transportation as much as possible for minimal destinations that would require me in walking which is a more healthier method for me and doing a little in helping out the Earth. Although climate change has been an interesting subject for me as well as taking it under consideration, I still haven't focused on future purchases of any property in the mean time or near future. Even though climate change is a serious matter I honestly think that not much is being done in bettering our own world, most of us people wouldn't seem to focus on this type of issue unless it eventually affects them personally or their work. yet.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on Climate change have become even more serious, because of the exposure Romm gave us through the book, Climate change. Recently, I was thinking the careers that I can benefit from our carbon-constrained world because people from almost every field will be hugely required in the coming years if the global warming is not reduced, whether in constructing, business, medicine, or health sciences. Although, great research is required to successfully be employed related to global warming causes. Personally, I also make choices in my daily life to reduce the carbon footprint we regularly produce; from electronics to the transportation we use. I try to close unplug every electronic that is not in use in my house, as much as I can to. I turn off unnecessary light bulbs, etc. I believe if more people will take care about these little things, then climate change is not that far from getting better.
ReplyDeleteThis book has been useful because I have learned the consequences that the climate change bring. Also, in the last part of the book the explain how the cost areas will be affect and the people who live there. New York can be affected if the sea level increase and so do I. My future will be affected because my father has a construction company and the plan is buy and sell houses and we have to be aware about the areas that are in a danger area, for example rockaway because this area is close to the beach. Also, this book help me to understand more about this issue and how animal and the people are affected .
ReplyDeleteNow i know how climate change is going to affect the young people, because of global warming the prices of everything is going to be expensive. Some of the jobs are going to be hard if you choice to work out doors.
ReplyDeleteI've been took an effect on global warming. I have to recycle everything that is recyclable such as plastic, bottles, cans and even paper. I even recycle batteries, well, I give them to my grandma and she does something with it forget what it is. I even reuse plastic bags that I get from the grocery store, they come in handy.
ReplyDeleteReading "Climate Change" changed my way of thinking. Meaning we get strange weather because of "us". We dont do anything till the last moment. Thats dangerous to our society, because we find out that areas that haven't had any problems are having the worse problems. This book tells you that in a couple of years, you would see a dramatic change in weather such as were getting serve winters while getting warmer.
I dont know what will happen in the future but I do feel that the summer coming up will be extremely hotter than excepted and polling is getting worse. And me as a life guard in the summer would have it very hard because I would have to be in the sun. But then again, I dont know what to except in the future.
