Finishing Up
I have read Climate change and Handbook for an unpredictable life, and I learned how to write a public issue in a personal way. For this semester, I think I already tried my best to improve my writing. I am wondering writing poem or essay is a difficult part for ENG102,

Finishing Up
In ENG 101, I learned about climate change, how an abusive childhood can affect people lives, and how to improve my writing. Being out of school for over a year definitely affected my writing skills, and this class helped me a lot. I enjoyed reading Rosie Perez's book and finding out more facts about climate change. I predict that ENG 102 will be a little more difficult, probably more research required and longer essays.
prompt
-In the Handbook For an Unpredictable life by Rosie Perez, and "Superman and Me" by Sherman Alexie; and "My Life as an Undocumented Immigrants by Jose Antonio Vargas. how do they man characters overcome with their struggle?
-Why do they decided to shared their stories to the world?
-Why do they decided to shared their stories to the world?
English 101 Final Essay Prompt
For the final essay, my group came up with 2 questions about Vargas's article, "My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant", Rosie Perez's handbook, An Unpredictable Life of Rosie Perez, and the article, "Superman and Me".
1. In the handbook, An Unpredictable Life of Rosie Perez,
and the article, “Superman and Me”, how do the main characters overcome/cope
with their struggle?
2. What are the similar
traits that both Vargas from “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant”, and
Alexie, “Superman and Me” have?
Essay Prompt
How is perseverance shown in these stories and how can you connect to them?
Anjuman, Ericka, Annabel

In this course, ENG 101 I learned a lot about Climate change. Everything else I would say is really basic to know in an English class. Like having work cited pages for your assignments. But the good thing, there's always different people who have their own opinion on your pieces and give comments on it to hep you improve your piece. I really wonder what type of pieces I would be having to write for ENG 102 since in 101 we mostly did research papers and personal interviews.
Prompt for the final
In ENG 101, we read three short stories/novels in which each of the main characters go through certain hardships, how does the author tie them together, and how does he/she show that the characters overcame it?
prompt that might be on the test
Throughout the semester we have read various readings that dealt with similar ideas, and topics. these topics include: perseverance, ethical differences, language, and personal stories. use one other reading to pair with My life as an undocumented immigrant that you can compare, and contrast to the reading.
Finishing Up
For the final week of the blog, I'd like you to make some final reflections on what you've learned this year in ENGL 101 and what questions/concerns you have as you go forward into 102. Also, you can use this space to make some comments on the class readings on Thursday. Which readers did you like the most? What was it like to read your own writing out loud?
Since this is not a complete week, any entries you make this week will be extra credit.

Years of living dangerously
This series is called "Years of living dangerously" because of the living conditions these people have to go through in their hometowns. They are living with little to no water and are becoming violent with one another over water. People have to kill each other in order to survive. Climate change is slowly killing the people of Bangladesh.
- Why does the show use celebrities--who are not climate scientists or experts--as narrators and investigators?
The reason for this is because when people see famous people on shows they become more interested in it and are more eager to watch it.
Why is the series called Years of Living Dangerously?
The movie we watched in class was called "Years of living dangerously" since it showed how violence happens when people don't have have water. The name of the movie does go with what people in these country endure. It's unsafe while they fight over who has control over wells and water supply.

Years of Living Dangerously
- Why is the series called Years of Living Dangerously? Human beings are threatened by climate change. Climate change is affecting our lives slowly. The problems like Sea-level rising, rising temperatures, and the lack of water resources are beginning to show up all over the world.
How has climate change lead to violence?
Climate change is a showing problem, but Bangladesh will be the first place to be affected. Water supply is a serious problem in Bangladesh. It cause a gun fight between two villages. Those people fought for water, for survival is what we cannot image.
Years of living Dangerously
I didn't went to Bangladesh in 20 years and I forgot how my home country looked like. Now in summer, it is my first time going there and I am very excited. However, my country is badly affected by climate change, but I didn't know that it was very badly affected after watching that documentary. It frightens me that Bangladesh will be drowned after few years later. It also astonished me, before my thoughts on climate change didn't mean anything to me and I'm seeing how scary it is. Climate change is like a silent serial killer that it never stops.
How has climate change led to violence?
This country could be first of run out of water. There is why so many people in this country people are fighting for it. One example is the person who got shut in the video that we saw. He was getting ,arried
Years of Living Dangerously
Here are some more questions:
- Why is the series called Years of Living Dangerously?
- What is "adaptation" and what are the limits of it?
- What reactions did you have to Thomas Friedman's interview w/ Barack Obama? How have things changed since the Trump Admin?
- How does the series show science at work?
- What did Obama argue is the public's responsibility? Do you feel cynical about your leaders in Washington? Explain.

How does economic inequality play a role in climate change?
I believe economic inequality plays a role in climate change because it mainly happens to countries that don't have too much money. Based on the video from class today, it was mainly poor countries that was losing water quickly and had people dying very frequently and only people who had enough money, received water by having it delivered to them, other people had to get it from outside of a church.

years of living dangerously!!
It is incredible how climate change can led to people to violence, I was in shock when i saw that 60% of the conflict between Qaradh and Al Marzouh is because of the water; It is sad how people killing each to survive. another fact that impact me was that Yemen can be the first country of run off of water in the world. it is shocking how climate change, heat waves take people away from you. For example example of the athlete that pass away because of the heat waves in L.A, or the thousand of people that died fighting for water in Yemen. This documentary made me realize the fortunes that we are.
Years of living Dangerously
How is climate change a political issue?
- Climate change is a political issue because it mainly happens to the poor countries like Bagladesh. Their President spoke about how he had never seen something like what happened out there and the scientist stated that their land is the flatest land and how sooner or later, the whole land would be covered by water and underneath the oceans water is where most the bodies would be

Years of living Dangerously
- How is climate change a political issue?
Climate Change is a political issue because it has been affecting many countries worldwide. There has been lack of water and this is really a big issue due to the heat wave that has been going on. Heat waves are really deadly.
- Why does the show use celebrities--who are not climate scientists or experts--as narrators and investigators?
I think the show uses celebrities to gain more people in watching the show. That way they'll be more interested.
Years Of Living Dangerously
Climate change has brought so many situations involving rising sea level, rising temperatures to increase, contamination in the earths atmosphere and even has created physical violent issues in one of the many places that have been and still is effecting them drastically, Yemen. Rising heat temperatures have caused droughts to be appear more often, the amount of rain being brought in the country remains rarely efficient on happening leading people into depending in a couple sources of water causing a problem for containing it as prices for water start to increase leading people into violent actions on upholding this.
How has climate change led to violence?
Because of climate change in countries like Bangladesh people are fighting for water. According to Years of Living Dangerously. Bangladesh could be the first county of run out water.
How has climate change led to violence?
In many places around the world, Climate change has lead to violence for a few reasons. Being that climate change has increased water scarcity, it is harder for one to obtain water. Water supply is very limited and the places that do have it will sell it at a very high unaffordable price. This causes people to become violent and fight in order to survive. Economic factors and food security may trigger conflict in poor places. Poor places may have less of everything compared to the more stable parts.
Why does the show use celebrities--who are not climate scientists or experts--as narrators and investigators?
- Matt Damon is a famous actor in the world. This show uses celebrities to investigate climate change that could attract more people to watch the show. Otherwise, this show would just be a normal scientific documentary, and people might not be interesting in the topic. Using celebrities in this show could lead positive effect. As public people, their behaviors would affect fans' mind. When people see their idols in this show, they would think about that climate change is really a big issue.
How Has Climate Change Led to Violence?
Climate change has led to violence starting with water. In the video, in Yemen, there is a lack of water and the people there are struggling to survive. The water situation is so vile that the people in Yemen are literally fighting each other for water. They called this water situation a "fight for survival". They depend on plumbing pipes for water to drink, shower and wash/clean clothes, utensils, etc. They are lucky if it rains and in the video, I saw little kids playing in the rain and washing themselves. Water is a big necessity for survival. It is sad that they have minimum to no water supply to do their daily tasks and most importantly to live. Without water, how can someone live?
Years of living dangerously response.
- How has climate change led to violence?
Climate change has led to violence because it can cause many individuals to leave their home, and fight for territory over places where other's live, who were not affected by climate change.
- How is climate change a political issue?
Climate change is a political issue because it destroys many businesses that support the economy, and also, destroys many buildings and areas which are used for the betterment of society and establishment.
- Why does the show use celebrities--who are not climate scientists or experts--as narrators and investigators?
I think that the show uses celebrities to help the audience signify the amount of emotion that goes on in many of the places affected by climate change, to make the audience feel sympathy and empathy.
- What place does science play in the series?
Science plays a role in the series by helping the audience understand the life-long term effects of climate change, and how it negatively affects those who are victims of it.
- How does economic inequality play a role in climate change?
Economic inequality plays a role in climate change, because it depicts how those who are effected by climate change, take necessary actions towards those who were or are not effected by climate change. In a sense, climate change effects everyone, whether it be indirectly, or directly, through the cause of others.
Years of Living Dangerously
Climate change has began to lead to violence. In bangdalesh there are towns that kill eachother, with bazookas and machine guns even on a regular basis over water! I can't imagine people in america having to fight over water. In this country, the constant bickering between everyone now is over politics, race, religion. Meanwhile, less fortunate people have to fight to the death over a natural resource. If the temperatures continue to rise, this could mean that eventually we would meet this same fate.
I believe that they used celebrities rather than climate scientists or experts because, they wanted people with the most privilege to see this. Some people still somehow believe that climate change is a "myth" or a "hoax. That just because we aren't struggling like other countries, climate change couldnt possibly affect us when it already has greatly. Using these celebrities, they can then raise awareness with their voices. They can help make a difference.

Years of Living Dangerously
This week we're going to watch a couple episodes of the first season of Years of Living Dangerously (2014) (the second season just finished last year). Joseph Romm, author of Climate Change: What Everyone Needs to Know, is the Chief Science Advisor for the series which won an Emmy for best documentary series in 2014. As you watch the show, I'd like you to ponder a few questions:
- How has climate change led to violence?
- How is climate change a political issue?
- Why does the show use celebrities--who are not climate scientists or experts--as narrators and investigators?
- What place does science play in the series?
- How does economic inequality play a role in climate change?

final review
The last thing that I learned from this book is keep studying. In this book, Romm did a lot of researches. Scientists spent decades finding climate change. As an engineering studentmajor student, this is my duty to make the life better. So I have to keep studying in these years. Studying helps us to understand the world better. Maybe few years later, we would find that global warming is not harmful but who knows?Thank this class, it is really helpful for me.

why is important literature link!!!
Hey guys I have been thinking the topic of discusion of last class, and i was to curious to learn more about the importance of the literature. As I was looking for literature articles I found this website of why literature is important is our lives. here is the link I hope you like it.

Climate Change
Measures me and my family take to make to eliminate climate change includes turning off lights and making sure circuits don't have chargers plugged in the wall. Also I feel as an individual that takes the bus everyday I could take it less. If I can walk some where I might as well not be lazy and do so. The little things we all do can make the world better.
Climate change
After reading the book, Climate change is now something I think about more often compared to before. I take things into account from littering, saving energy and little things that can make a difference. If one person does it does not mean I should go ahead and do something that will hurt the planet. In fact I can avoid those things and little by little things will change for the better.
Climate Change
After reading the book Climate Change by Romm, I realized that little things can make a big difference, so I decide to innovate people to protect our planet from a catastrophe that could be cause by climate change. A lot of people knows that I study and work full-time but I also like to help people whenever I can. Therefore, I decided to teach basic English on Sundays night at my house to people who couldn't go to school when they were young. One of these days I shared my knowledge about climate change and what the causes are. These people were very interested about this topic and they want to make a difference. So they are trying to create a committee to fight climate change but meanwhile, they are recycling and saving energy in their family and friends house.
climate change and you
I do take global warming into account I do not leave my phone charging over night. I also try to unplug anything that is not being used. In my house we also recycle. Also we reuse the plastic bags from the grocery stores.

For my career is to become a physical therapist. In physical therapy we use many exercise machines and it takes a lot of energy. Exercise machines's power source are always on for patients need.

Climate Change and You
My parents have always yelled at me when it comes to saving energy in the house. I never put much mind to it since I didn't really think it was harming anyone. But now that I know climate change has part in it, I have stopped.
Climate change and you
Since climate change happened, the weather became strange. If I have chance to choice where I can live, I will choice countryside. Because if I live in a small town, I could ride or walk instead of driving. And also because the weather in countryside is much clearer than city. For job, I think more and more young people will choice the work related to the environment. Climate change impact environment, and it also affect human's health. I am studying in nutrition, so I think nutrition will become more important for people.
climate change and you
I really like this book I think that every person should read it because it taught many important things about climate change; also you can change you perspective about this huge issue. one of the things that i learned is that we waist so much energy, that we are one of the causes of global warming, that is better if we walk or use our bike instead of us our car etc. all of this made me realize that i was ignoring an important issue, but gratefully we start reading the Climate Change book in class. To be honest in the beginning i did not want to read the book because climate change was not a topic that I like, but while i was reading my mind change completely. Now i know the importance of climate change, and how we can contribute to save our planet.
Climate Change & You
I take global warming into account. I still unplug things that aren't being used, and I don't really litter. If there's a garbage can around me and if I have something I would throw it out, but honestly if I do litter, its always gum wrappers, i don't throw out whole bags like from the corner store or from Mc.Donalds. I also recycle at home and at work
Climate Change and you
From this class, I have learned a lot about climate change. Climate change is a significant issue nowadays. As a part of community, I have changed some of my opinions and behaviors. Firstly, I decided to choice a clean energy car as my next car. I have seen many new hybrid and electric cars in New York International Auto Show. And I believe that clean energy car would finally become the most popular car in the future. Secondly, my major is mechanical engineering, and now I want to learn more about pollution in engineering. If I become a engineer, I would like to build more non-pollution machines to help people.
Climate change and you.
This last chapter on climate change has helped me realize how it can not only affect countries and environments globally in a catastrophic way, but it can also affect future price of coastal properties, and also finding a job for myself. With these factors, I feel that moving to a different place that has not been affected by climate change would help me to suffice better in life, because I would have a better opportunity looking for a job to help myself survive, and I would also have a better chance of obtaining a coastal property to live in better conditions.
Is climate change a moral/religious issue?
I agree with the pope, I believe that climate change is a moral/religious issue for reasons being that it is a serious issue and we should care more about it and treat it more seriously since we are experiencing it everyday. The way people respect their religion and care for it should be the same way climate change should be dealt with. The planet is slowly being damaged because of our fault and it is our responsibility to fix it. If we are able to destroy the planet then I believe we are able to rise above it and do something to help stop it. It was a right thing for the pope to make it a religious/moral issue.
Climate Change and You
Throughout the course when we were talking about climate change, I still believe that it is real and it is causing a damage to our earth. I did not take our lack of food supply and health services into consideration. I was more focused on the global effects rather than the human effects. The reading has opened my mind more about what climate change can do to us personally. Our discussions are similar to what I had in mind, knowing that climate change is real and that it is a negative impact on earth. We discuss thoroughly about what causes climate change to happen and it is mostly human activity. What we do causes climate change but many of us are unaware of it. The things we do on a normal bases, cook, use water, breathe, drive, etc. are the reasons why climate change occurs. Everyday I take the train to school, dance rehearsals, home etc. because it takes me AT LEAST an hour to get to these places. I can walk, but why. It will take longer for me to reach my destinations, I will get tired and then there is no point. It hard to prevent doing what we do daily to prevent climate change from occurring. We need to figure out other ways on how we can stop climate change from ruining our lives.
Climate change and you
There are many changes i've made in my life to decrease my carbon footprint. For one, I used to always have my lights on, my TV on, I would waste alot of electricity. I am well aware that climate change is affecting our planet greatly. I make sure to unplug my TV, my lamp and whatever else is plugged into any outlet in my room. Even if they're "off" they still use power if left plugged in. In my home, we usually have the shades open throughout the day. However, if I need to turn on a light, I always make sure to turn it off when I leave the room. We all do the same with water. Never leave the water running, turn the faucet off while you brush your teeth, being mindful of how long you take a shower. My family has also changed all of the lightbulbs in the house to fluroscent lightbulbs. These supposably last way longer and use alot less energy.
Climate Change and Faith
I do believe that saving the climate is a moral issue because it is something we live and deal with everyday. If there is a problem with the climate, it is our job to fix it because it is associated with our aspects of living. It is the right thing to help save the Earth to prevent it from being damaged and causing hurt to the people living and suffering from the bad effects of climate change. In my point of view, morals are what people believe is good and bad. I believe saving our climate is a moral and is something that needs to be done to make our world a better and healthy place and to make us live a well and healthy life.
Climate Change and Faith
Joseph Romm writes about Pope Francis' encyclical which you can read here if you're interested:

Climate Change and You
The last chapter gives ways that climate change will affect you directly, esp. as young people who will be going into the work force, investing in property, and planning for the future. I'd like you to continue to share changes that you have made already or want to make in order to decrease your carbon footprint. But I'd also like to know if you have taken global warming into account regarding choices about where you'd like to live or what you'd like to do for a job.
Also, this week, I'd like you to share what you have learned spending the second half of the course discussing climate change. How has the reading and/or our discussions changed, or not, the way you think about climate change?

Saving Energy
My family and I save energy at home by turning off the lights when we ae not using them. Also instead of turning the lights on in the morning we open up the window shades to let the sunlight come in. Another thing we do is not let our cell phones charge overnight and unplug them from the wall.

Climate change march!!
It is incredible the thousands of people who came out to the climate change march. It is a good thing that people want to fight, defend, and demonstrate the importance of global warming. There is only one earth and his march was for a healthy planet and a government respectful of human rights. We need to start changing the world and this is definitely the first step.
Ways to save energy
I have realized ways my parents and I have been saving energy. Recently my mom started using energy saving light bulbs and using the suns sunlight rather than turning on the lights from the house. She also unplugs all the chargers when we are not using them to save energy. I feel that by doing these small things it can make a difference over time.

Saving Energy
My parents and I save energy by turning off lights when we don't need it. Whenever my mom finish cooking , she turned off our kitchen light. Also when I go out, I turned of my bedroom lights. In additon, when I don't use my charger or finish charging, I always take out power outage.

what I learned from chapter 6
Something that I learned from chapter 6 is that there are several plans to reduce carbon dioxide. The saddest thing for me is that most of the people including me do not realize that we are responsible and contributors in the pollution of the environment. Another interesting thing that I learned from this chapter is that we should start replacing vehicles, and try to replace it by using bicycles, public transportation. We should begin to walk more often instead of using our car for everything; moreover, walking is beneficial for our health. Walking or cycling emits 0Kg of CO2 associated with the burning of fossil fuels; we should try everything to clean our world.
Role of clean energy
In chapter 6, Joseph Romm uses "personal researching" in page 196 and it at second paragraph where he talked about him working in U.S Department of Energy. Also he speak about publishing some case studies based on limiting energy consumption and carbon dioxide. However, before that case, he published another cased called, " "Greening the Building and the bottom line: Increasing productively Through Energy Efficient Design", but this case was dismissed.
The role of clean energy
After reading the chapter 6 I learned that increasing energy efficiency is a direct way to against climate change. Energy efficiency in climate change is the most significant role at present situation. My family have taken part in energy efficiency like most of Americans. We recycle bottles, papers, and water. I use bank statement letters as sketch papers when I was doing math problems. I would turn off all the electric after leaving home. World has changed a lot in the past few years. I have just been to the New York International Auto show last Sunday, and I have noticed that more and more hybrid cars were made from different companies. Green energy car will become the mainstream in the future.
chapter 6
What I learn from this chapter is that energy efficiency can be simple and insulating at home. This is a good way too reduce the energy consumed. Also this energy efficiency could help families save money.
Energy efficiency
Energy efficiency is the reduction in the products and services that we use. In my eyes it is very important in order to limit and reduce climate change as much as possible. With everyone helping little by little great change can happen. Joseph Romm uses personal research by explaining when he used to work for the U.S department of energy.
The Role of Clean Energy
I believe that the role of having clean energy makes it easier to reduce energy and what we're using it for. It also makes it safer for us to use because we won't use so much energy on things that we may not be using in the moment. Things that I do to reduce the energy that's not being used i unplug the items, such as my lamp, phone charger, and my laptop. I'm going to consider taking your idea and giving my food scraps to composting places around or in my neighborhood because t sounds useful and helpful for communities around me and even within my community.
Energy Efficiency
In Climate Change, Romm states energy efficiency is the reducing of energy consumption of products and services we use. He also states how energy efficiency is the most important climate solution for the fact its a big resource, its the cheapest, its the fastest to deploy and it is renewable. My family, well just parents are always screaming at me and my siblings when we have too many lights on or have something on like the TV without even making use of it. As well as when we go shower, we leave the water running for a while instead of going in as soon as we open it. we don't listen often when our parents yell at us for this but its literally so simple to save water and energy.

ENG101
My biggest takeaway from CH.6 is when Joseph Romm explains the significance of Energy Efficiency on page 195. This is so significant to me, because I have not thought that there could be uses for other energy resources pretaning to the energy we use on a daily basis. He elaborates on this by giving the meaning of energy efficiency by implying that certain energy resources can be replaced with other sources, and explains the advantages it offers as a result to reduce climate change. I cannot remember exactly when me or my family have used energy efficiency, however,I will take note of this, and hope in the future I can use energy efficiency to prevent climate change.

The Role of Clean Energy
This chapter is a welcome respite from the gloom and doom of this book. Finally, what we can do about climate change!
What is your biggest takeaway from Ch. 6?
What role does energy efficiency play in fighting climate change? Have you or your family taken part in energy efficiency? If so, it what ways? Have you noticed any changes in your life--work, community--related to energy efficiency or conservation?
How does Joseph Romm use "personal research" (like in our Assignment #4) in this book? Examples?

Facts
Worldwide protesters are gathering to be heard. The main reason why thousound of people are protesting in the march for science is not to fight politically but strictally scientific. Society wants to improve health and environmental issues based on accurate and real facts. The purpose of this is to have an idea of how to act against adversities and changes in climate related issues. A clear example is the exact percentage of ultraviolet radiation that affects the planet. This is essential to determine the precise amount of chemicals and safe ingredients to make the right solar cream protection
From this book,I have known CO2 emission is a significant problem which leads global warming. As I know,NewYork State doesn't have relevant law about car emission. But in California,My friends told me that DMV checks car emission very strictly. China also has emission tax to charger more money from larger emission cars. Its a good idea to warn people to take care of the environment.

In this chapter, measures we're taking to cut down carbon pollution caught my attention. The United States uses strategies to cut down carbon dioxide emissions by using things such as a program called "Regional Green House Initiative". This of which helps to cut down the carbon pollution. I feel by us doing this it's going to better our environment and make our air much cleaner.

my country Bangladesh is also heavily affected by climate change
Bangladesh is also one of the victims of climate change. Bangladesh has been suffering from poverty. There are many poor people living in the street with no home. If climate change creates more terrifying storm then it is going to impact them negatively.
here is a website of Bangladesh's climate change affects.

Climate change is affecting my country!!
This time i want to mention a very sad situation that just happened in Colombia due to a severe river overflow that led to more than 200 people dead. In the south region of Colombia, very heavy rains made three rivers overflow and literally destroy the whole city of Mocoa. This is a clear example of how climate change is becoming a very important issue worldwide. Unfortunately the conditions of the region make it harder to rescue personnel to access the affected areas. Climate change has definitely created catastrophes due to an increase in frequency and intensity of natural events.

Re-climate change vs capitalism
I believe being a climate change denier is being ignorant and refuse to see the facts. all of us should start trying to change something in our every day to try to help the environment. I think politicians don't want to pay much attention to climate change because they rather get more money in heir pockets or spend it in something else such as guns or military equipment.
Re-climate change vs capitalism
I believe that protecting the environment shoud come before jobs because even though jobs will relieve the suffering of the poverty for now it is only a temporary solution. Protecting the enviornment will benefit all of mankind in the long run. We must make sacrifices in order to serve a greater good, it just happens that the jobs of some people is that sacrifice.

Climate Change vs. Capitalism
As Romm writes, the wealthy countries (USA, EU member nations) have a duty to cut more greenhouse gasses than the developing nations (China and India, both big polluters, are getting wealthier, but they're still developing nations). Donald Trump, a climate denier, has argued that controls on emissions is bad for business. He is in the process of defunding the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and many worry that he will remove the US from the Paris Climate Agreement. Here is a graph showing that the US has been the heaviest polluter throughout most of the 20th century:
http://www.pbl.nl/en/infographic/total-global-cumulative-greenhouse-gas-emissions
What is your feeling about this? Which should take precedence? Business/jobs or protection of the climate? Is it fair that we should have to cut more pollutants than a huge polluter like India?
Since about 97% of climate change scientists argue that our climate is dangerously warming and that humans have caused the vast majority of the warming, why do some (businesses, a few scientists, and many US politicians) argue the opposite? What are their motivations for arguing against the science? What do they know that the scientists don't know?

Climate change
The more I learn about climate change the more I realize how it is severely affecting us. Many people don't find it of great importance, so they don't pay mind to it but sooner or later it's going to hit them. Our animals are becoming extinct because of us which is very cruel and inconsiderate. Carbon dioxide has presented to be the worst of all the others to be destroying the climate from the global level. Coal plants are operated by the government and several individual companies within the country.

Climate Change Petition #ActOnClimate
Dear class,
During my speech class we are doing a persuasive speech and my topic is Trump legislation on climate change. While I was researching, I found a great petition on against Trump ideas of not taking action in climate change. I want us to be part of this petition and taking action because we all know that without not doing anything, our earth will be worse than before. We need Trump to believe in climate change!!!
Here is the petition. I will appreciate it if you sign up. It need more supporters.

My thoughts on climate change
To me climate change is a very serious issue and I think it should be addressed and taken very serious by our government. Even tho climate change will have a bigger impact in the future, it is starting to occur right now, so it's a serious issue because it's effecting our world today and I think people should start to notice it and take action and stop talking about it, like the video we watched in class. People should stop arguing who's right and what's facts because it's not going to change the fact that it is happening and people like trump who keep ignoring it and putting it to the side are the people who are causing it and who are effected if we do take action because of the company's he owns.

Projected Climate Impact
An interesting thing that I learned in the chapter 3 about Climate Change is that a study in 2015 have discovered that global sea level rise has been on continuous acceleration since the 1990s only getting faster and faster as we go ahead further in the years. Without proceeding into any actions made by humans for example the reduction of green house gasses, causing an increase in sea level rise over coastal areas later affecting the coastal population.
chapter three
In chapter three I learn about that the Antarctic and the crucial thing that the ocean is facing right now; as a result of the global warming the ice Sheet in the Antarctic is unstable and is melting faster that the researchers expect, the carbon dioxide is causing extreme changes in the world as we can see everyday are more catastrophes in the world another thing that I learn in this chapter is that climate change is making the storms more destructive because the water vapor in the atmosphere is increasing more.the more that scares me is that people is not taking this serious.
Something that I learned about Climate Change
One thing that I learned about climate change is that its different from weather. Climate change is more of something that we would expect to happen over the centuries. Its also something that we can predict will happen as years past, based on what's already happened in recent years and the years before.
Chapter 3
In chapter 3 I have learned much more extreme weather happened this century. This chapter discuss severe impacts in the coming decades if the world stays near our current greenhouse gas emissions path. The author talked about what the impacts of sea-level rise will be, I think it is an important thing that we need to know.
Chapter 3
In chapter 3 of Climate Change, Romm talks about many projected climate impacts that we will or may face if climate change continues. He describes and shows the possibilities of climate change and what will or may cause it. What alarms me is what he states seems to be facts and its not only getting better within time but worse. It's really frightening to know nothing is being done about it...
Climate Impact
While reading chapter three I learned that sea level constantly rises about 12 inches every decade. The sea level will be high in the year 2050, rising up to 1 foot, and again in the year 2050 by 4 to 6 feet. This is astonishing news that I would've never learned about. I find this to be extremely important because not many are aware that this is currently happening, and why it is.
Chapter.3
At the beginning of the chapter.3, I learned that "sea level rise of up to 1 foot by 2050, and 4 to 6 feet by 2100, rising as much as 12 inches or more each decade thereafter." I didn't realize the change until I saw this data. This is a quite big problem because there are a lot of people don't know this change. If humans can't stop the climate change, animals would extinct because of habitat loss. And finally, it would turns to humans. This is just a little part of effect from climate change. Can't imagine what happen in the future.
Projected Climate Change
One thing I learned about climate change in Ch. 3 were the impacts of climate change and how one of them is the upcoming of the Dust Bowl. We had a Dust Bowl in the 1930s and it lead to severe injuries and destruction to numerous areas. The fact that it may occur again is scary and it can harm a lot of people today. Not only that, but it can also cause a loss in food supply and our health supply is at risk at a high state. I knew that climate change will affect the weather as well as people in their health, getting sick, dying, etc. But I did not really take it that far as to it limiting our basic needs and barely having the things we need to keep us alive everyday. It worries me that the continuation of climate change can lead to a drastic decrease in the human population and it can seriously kill many people. This can happen to any of us from not having a lot of food to little health supply/service to making us sick. We need to stop climate change from continuing and put it to an end so that we all can be safe.
in chapter three I have learned that the carbon dioxide affects the atmosphere and the water as well. when carbon dioxide and seawater are combined produce carbonic acid . This reaction affects the sea life because the places in the ocean are becoming under-saturated decline of calcification, and reducing marine biodiversity.
One thing that I learned in Chapter 3 about Climate Change is that the most anticipated thought of Climate Change is the potential of global warming, and how warm it will be in the future. Joseph Romm analyzes that this by giving readers 4 factors of what could potentially cause a rise in global warming, whilst also basing those factors off of the things that humans do to cause them to happen. Since Climate Change is such a hot topic, I think that our government will also take the necessary precautions to ensure that their projected Climate Impacts will not come true.
projected climate impacts response
One of several things that i learned about climate change in chapter 3 was that the climate will continue to keep changing erratically, and effect many aspects of our life and nature. One thing that alarms me is that even after all the changes in the climate happening right now , there is still not enough support from our government to alter whats occurring, and what is going to occur in the future.
projected climate impacts response
One thing that I have learned about climate change is that if unchecked that it can cause many devastating things that will harm our ecosystem and change the way we live forever. A slight climate change wont show immediate effects but over time and giving the right amount would be devastating to the earth and it's inhabitants. One thing that alarms me is that climate change will basically make entire species go extinct, in land and underwater. and that it would make humans find different way's to survive.

what frightens me the most ...
What worries me the most how climate change will cause more dangerous storms like sandy. During the hurricane Sandy , many people died and lost their home. For that mean, if ocean levels rise then there will be worse hurricanes.
Maps and Graphs
Do you find the maps and graphs in Romm helpful? Why or why not? If not, what could make them more so?
Projected Climate Impacts
In Ch. 3, Romm goes through many projected climate impacts that we will/may face if climate change continues unchecked ("business-as-usual"). What is one thing that you learned about climate change in Ch. 3? What is one thing that alarms you?

Blizzards
I believe that blizzards are caused by the temperature outside and of the earth. It could also depend on the atmosphere.
The planet is getting warmer but that doesn't means that we can not have blizzards. Clime change or Global Warming can cause any kind of storms, in this case blizzards. Heat waves rise the sea level and this cause a lot of water vapor in the atmosphere. Vapor cause a lot precipitation and during winter time, temperatures are pretty cold and this is how blizzards are form.
blizzards!!
Global warming is happening faster than I expected, and is causing so many disasters all over the world. To be honest I don't have so much knowledge about climate change. Since we start reading the book I was in shock because this is so important and can affect us badly. I found in the book that some of the causes of the heavy snows storms is the excessive water vapor in the atmosphere (pg 52-53) I feel really bad because I don't have an answer to shared in this blog about blizzards, and it made me realize that i need to inform myself more about climate change. This is an important topic that everybody should know, you never know when can affect you!!!
The climate change affect the planet in different ways, but the oceans and the atmosphere are the most affected. It is because water vapor increase temperature which brings consequences as strong storms and increase the sea level. these have devastating consequences for animals. human and the natural ecosystem.
The planet is getting warmer is caused having extra energy in the atmosphere and that resulted to creating more moist temperature Like temperature are changing in different time, like in summer, the weather gets extra warmer than usually. Then in winter time, it gets very cold than normal temperature.
if the planet is getting warmer, why do we have blizzards?
the reason why we still have blizzards while the planet is getting warmer because as the planet is getting warmer, the amount of water evaporation increases because of the increase in temp. and this leads to more moisture in the air. To make a snowstorm it needs to be cold and a lot of moisture in the air, so because the planet is getting warmer, winters will get shorter but snowstorms will be more severe.
Response
If the planet is getting warmer, why do we have blizzards?
We continue to have blizzards because of the amount of extra water vapor in the atmosphere, so when a certain area gets cold enough to snow, the snow is carried along with the extra water vapor making these specific snow storms more intense than the usual. Although this occurs, there are a few amount of snow storms that happen every year but the outcome of it remains serious.

If the planet is getting warmer then why do we have blizzards?
I think that the reason why we have blizzards if the planet is getting warmer is because there is still very cold weather in the winter, cold enough to reach below freezing point. The Earth's seasons cause the axis to tilt as it revolves around the sun and points sunlight to one direction of the earth. During the winter it is tilted away from the sun, and only one part of the earth receives the sunlight.
response
i think the reason that blizzards appear, even when the climate is supposed to be getting warmer is because of the cold air being mixed with the warm air, Also because of the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere.
What scares me?
Climate change brings many different effects. The first things is the weird temperature. For example, in the last weekend, the days were extremely warm but only two days later a severe blizzard came. After the blizzard, the snow was frozen, and my car was stacked in the ice. I spent two hours to try to dig out my car but I can't. My hands were injured and my shovel was broken. This is the most terrible experience in my life.
If the planet is getting warmer. Why do we have Blizzards?
I think the reason for us having these blizzards is because the ice caps are melting. Since there melting theirs not a way for us not to have a blizzard. I feel that since were damaging our own planet no one sees the damage until the damage has already taken place. I say this to explain that we sit here not recycling, smoking, cutting down trees, etc, etc. And no one is seeing the damage being done to the atmosphere, so the weather is showing us that we need to take an effect now. So we can at least slow down the process off or summers becoming hotter then excepted, Making it hit a new record.
If the planet is getting warmer why do we have blizzards?
I believe that although the planet is getting warm, we have blizzards because of the season that we're currently in. I feel like it could also depend on how the weather has been, which links back to the season, it may be snow in the forecast.
If the planet is getting warmer, then we are having blizzards because of the interchangeable meaning of global warming and climate change. Climate change is the change in our atmosphere observed long termed, while global warming is increasing heat caused by the emission of gases in the environment. Both of these terms have same outcomes such as, heatwaves, polar ice melting, droughts, storms, etc.
If the Planet is Getting Warmer, Why Do We Have Blizzards?
The fact that the weather may be getting warmer is probably the cause of the blizzards. The cold air from the winter transforming into warm air is a difficult process. The cold air is not used to the warm air, therefore, all that cold and hot air combined mixes the temperature in the atmosphere making it become a bad weather condition. It probably goes to one side of either hot and cold weather and cause the weather to go to an extreme level because it is not normal and it is having a hard time deciding on weather to be warm or cold since both weathers are mixed together.
If the planet is getting warmer, why do we have blizzards?
For what I read due to climate change winter is going to become shorter but the snow storms are going to become worst because weather warming causes more or less precipitation varies by region, this means that when is cold we would get more moisture in the air and this is going to create bigger snowstorms.
If the planet is getting warmer, why do we have blizzards?
I think the reason for the planet getting warmer but still having blizzards is all due to the cause of climate change and global warming...
The reason why we have a random occurrence of blizzards, although the planet can be warm, is because of chemicals resulting in Climate Change. The direct cause of this are humans contributing to the change in the atmosphere of the Earth through the use of chemicals. I think that chemicals can be a direct result of this, because fossil fuels in the past have caused major heat waves in particular days where it was supposed to be a moderate temperature.
If the climate is getting warmer why do we have blizzards?
I'm not too sure what causes blizzards when it gets warmer. During the winter its supposed to be cold not warm. Maybe as it gets warmer a way for the planet to attempt to keep the temperature that it needs in the specific season it ex. in the winter we get a blizzard to maintain the cold temperature when it gets warm.
If the planet is getting warmer; Why do we have blizzards?
Im not % sure the reason why but I think because it's the winter and that it's what comes with the season. Also it may be that with the earth getting warmer it creates a sort of an imbalance on the earth and thus speratic events and weather conditions occur.

What Scares You?
Climatologist Dr. Kevin Trenberth has said that warmer and moister conditions lead to "unstable air" (69) which can lead to increased tornadoes (Romm writes of a day w/ 316). We've known for years that warming water temperatures lead to more severe hurricanes and longer hurricane seasons. Also, there have been a spate of horrific heatwaves. What frightens you the most about climate change?

I found this website is very interesting, you can find videos pictures, news and many more things about global warming and climate Change. It could be very helpful for your essay!!

Climate Change Chapter 2
A few points that caught my attention in chapter 2 is how climate change affects droughts. Due to the effects of of drying, warming and melting of snow and ice it'll cause areas of the world would experience longer and deeper droughts. Global warming makes wildfires more likely to happen and causes more damage. It as well increases the intensity of rainfall from biggest from biggest storms, this adds to flooding. As well as their is found proof that global warming provides fuel for the biggest storms. These are only some of changes that happen due to Global Warming.

Climate Change
When it comes to "Climate Change" the majority of people around the world would care less and it wouldn't concern to them as a major issue, and it indeed is a serious matter for us humans including all animals, nature, and the Earth itself. With a lot of things happening around the world not many pay no mind to an issue that can gravely impact our society and environment in the next 20 years or less. From reading the preface in the book "Climate Change" by Joseph Romm. He has explained with a numerous amount of information that contains climate change in general and the major effects that cause these certain issues and what can most likely happen with the outcome to these major problems. Hopefully as everyone continues reading this book, everyone can maintain a small but important glimpse of our Earth being in danger.

Climate Change
For chapter1, the book shows us what caused the climate change. The author give us a lot of research conclusions. When I was reading those data, I felt the climate change is really happening and changing our life gradually. I am interested in this book, because is really help me to understand what is happening on earth. And also, the author said climate change is now an existential issue for humanity and everyone's family will be affected by climate change. I think everyone should take seriously, and we have responsibility to protect earth.
climate change and global warming!
Global
warming is becoming a serious issue for humanity. Just to mention this winter,
which the temperature was above average, is something to worry about. Global
warming and climate change is not a topic of my full knowledge; however, it is
something that I am concerned about. To be honest I do not talk much about the
weather when socially sharing with my loved ones. Other than a “wow, this
weather is crazy” or “finally the winter is coming to an end” never crossed my
mind. In this essay, I am going to have the opportunity to investigate,
research and inform myself about one of the most important problem earth is
suffering. As a result of this changes in temperature, I really get worried
about the future of the world.

Climate Change
Honestly, I truly believe people need to be awoke when it comes to things happening around us. Things such as "Climate Change" may not be such a big deal to people when in reality its a major deal. In the book Climate Change by Joseph Romm he shows in the preface how climate change has a a very big impact on our lives. Its a big issue for all of hummanity. He's basically going to acknowledge readers all about what they need to know about climate change.
Climate Change
In the preface Joseph Romm wants to give us knowledge about climate change. He want us to know why it is important. Also how climate change affects us everyday. It is important to know about climate change because it can change our lives and if that happens we need to be prepared.
Climate Change
In Climate Change Romm show us, why is important to know about Climate Change or Global warming and what are the causes. It is scary because we are the primary cause. Global warming is getting worse, you can see it because climate is always changing. The heat is increasing and it create a big impact in the ocean.
Do the right thing
It is an attractive film, the directer used a funny way to reflect the racial problems of the reality. I was impressed by the close-up of the actors, everyone vent their anger like the actors spoke directly to the audiences. The beginning of the time I thought the exaggerated expression was very interesting, but later I was identify with the character. Seeing this old movie today, I realized the problem in this movie still exist today. Racial discrimination and police force still happened, especially in New York City which has a variety of races.

Beginning What Everyone Needs to Know: Climate Change
This may be a challenging book for some of you, so one way to start is to discuss how the book is challenging for you. Other questions that I'm interested in:
You will have to write about your own attitudes about climate change in Assignment #3. Feel free to use the blog to practice articulating those views. One thing to consider: Where do your beliefs about global warming come from? What has helped create them?
- What are amplifying feedbacks and why should we be concerned about them?
- What is "business as usual" and what are the problems w/ this approach?
- 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) is considered the "tipping point" for a point of no return as far as global warming is concerned. Why would just a few degrees make such a difference?
- According to Romm, the debate about whether global warming is real or not is "unproductive" (xix). Why is that?
- Why should we care that ice is melting in Greenland, Antarctica, and the Arctic? What does that have to do w/ us in NYC?
- If global warming exists, why are we having a snow storm tonight?

Importance Of Family
After finishing the memoir, what Rosie Perez concludes about the importance of family is that even though there was always conflict she was always caring with all of them because she knew they weren't always bad people like her mother or brothers and sisters, just went through rough situations that effected them. Although me and Rosie don't have anything in common with different experiences, it did give me another perspective of what truly means in the importance of family. You only have a family once and maybe it's not the best of what someone may want but you learn to appreciate it through the hardest of moments even though there can be problems in my opinion.

Finishing Up Handbook
I define success as an accomplish, it can be of many things not just receiving rewards or diplomas. It can be from someone's experiences and problems that one had over came. And in a more modest point it's a success from someone's well being as well. Perseverance tags along with success, you have to struggle in order to succeed, people must fail in order to get back up and do better. Rosie showed all these signs but never determined herself as a complete failure she had the help of her family in believing in her and that gave her the strength to keep on going.
Although Perez's beginning started off with so much confusion and pain, in my opinion her faith became her fulfilling her dreams. She was always a nice girl but the people around her would try to abolish that in anyway. Even though she was always mistreated by the nuns and her mother, and her brothers and sister she still respected all of them and she showed love towards them even though she received hate in return. Most of them back stabbed her for money even robbed her but she was always the bigger person and ignored it although it hurt her. Her pain was returned back with opportunities in success for what she loved doing and she was always appreciative for her blessings.
My thinking of the theme Perseverance has changed while reading through the memoir. It gave another perspective in determination. Most of us are always seen in trying to succeed with getting good grades or passing any exam but forget the little things that still count. Rosie showed and explained with detail how every little thing had affected her in so many ways but always came back in pushing all that aside in order to move on and over come those problems.

Do the Right Thing
I want to apologize for the poor quality of the film screening today. If I had known it would be like that, I would have just shown it in the classroom. In any case, I'd like to hear your views on what we saw in class. Some questions I have:
- What does the film say about relations between the community and police force? The film was made in 1989. How much have things changed? (The choke hold that kills Radio Raheem is similar to the one that killed Eric Gardner in 2014: http://video.nydailynews.com/Staten-Island-man-dies-after-NYPD-cop-puts-him-in-chokehold--26426042)
- After reading Rosie Perez's memoir, how did you react to her performance on screen? Here's the opening credits which were cut in today's screening:
- What does the film say about race relations in NYC, Brooklyn, or anywhere? Are things different 25 years later?
Tuesday, March 7, 2017
I really enjoyed reading about Rosie Perez life. After reading her memoir I felt that we shouldn't take life for granted. We should appreciate everything we have, because there are other people who have it much worse than most of us do. Also we can all be successful but only if went want to and put in the hard work because nothing in life coms easy.
How did perseverance help Perez weather her experience in the orphanage?
This book is a big example of perseverance it not only means to achieve your dreams it also requires more than that. You need to become strong like Rosie that a early age she had to face many bad things; she work hard and she learn how to be patient even when sister Renata was so strict and cruel. however, Rosie is thankful with her because even that she suffered a lot that made her more strong.
Perez's Perseverance
Perseverance helped Perez weather her experience in the orphanage by giving many of the orphans determination to face their problems and fight through any struggles opposing them in their lives. Perseverance is the motive of having determination to do something for the benefit of oneself, or for others. The reason why Perez's perseverance is so significant to the theme of the story, is because it helps gives readers more insight on her empathy for others she wishes to help. I think that Perez chose to do this, because she came to a realization that there were others in orphanges that have faced and are going through similar problems not so much different to her's when she was a child, and she wishes to help them, out of good will.
2. How do you define “success”?
After reading the handbook, I have learned something about perseverance and success. In my opinion, success is different in everyone's eyes. In the book, Rosie Perez finally became a actress. In her eyes, she has succeed. That's why she wrote the book and share her experience to us. As we know, she had a miserable childhood with her mother. How could she succeed? Perseverance helped her a lot. She never give up and keep forward. Her ambition and effort finally give her back.
How do you define “success”? Referencing Handbook, what relation does perseverance have to success?
Success to me is accomplishing what you want to do, to be or to have. Success continues to occur in the process of getting to where you want to be. Everybody sets a long term goal that they eventually want to get, but in between there's little goals that people would need to succeed in, in order to get closer to their big dream. Success can be big or small, whether if it's related to school, relationships, duties, dreams, etc. There is always something a person can achieve in, even if it's not what they had in mind or does not know that they've achieved it. A person who perseveres is willing to do what it takes to get them to where they want to be. They put their hard work and their all to accomplish what they want and stay on their path to reach their goal. No matter what the obstacles are, a person is able to handle the problems that will come forth and go through their successes when in the process of accomplishing something or being successful. No one will give up in trying to get to where they want to be. That is what Rosie Perez did. Although she has gone through so many difficulties and challenges in her life, that did not stop her from doing what she wanted to do and being successful. It took her some time to achieve her goals and to make her life a whole new change, but she did not give up. She persevered, fought, did, accomplished and became successful in her life. She can truly say that she is a successful person and that she overcame all of her troubles and darkness and found the light to her success.
