- What are amplifying feedbacks and why should we be concerned about them?
- What is "business as usual" and what are the problems w/ this approach?
- 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) is considered the "tipping point" for a point of no return as far as global warming is concerned. Why would just a few degrees make such a difference?
- According to Romm, the debate about whether global warming is real or not is "unproductive" (xix). Why is that?
- Why should we care that ice is melting in Greenland, Antarctica, and the Arctic? What does that have to do w/ us in NYC?
- If global warming exists, why are we having a snow storm tonight?
You will have to write about your own attitudes about climate change in Assignment #3. Feel free to use the blog to practice articulating those views. One thing to consider: Where do your beliefs about global warming come from? What has helped create them?
We should care about that ice is melting in Greenland, Antarctica and the Arctica because it can raise the ocean level. Also New York is near to ocean and that can bring impact in the future.
ReplyDeleteWe should care that the ice is melting in Greenland, Antarctica and the Arctic because it is raising the ocean level. When the ocean level increase, it could cause disasters as: Floods, Hurricanes and tsunamis. It has a lot to do with us because NYC is an Island and the Atlantic ocean is near us. Therefore, we have to pay attention and be aware of it. Global Warming it's getting worse and if it continue like that in few decades we will be on the bottom of the ocean.
ReplyDeleteGlobal warming and Climate Change are mutual because the meaning of the these terms are alike that is why we snow storm is happening. As global warming is the increasing temperature in the planet, likewise, climate change is the long term observance in different types of changes in the atmosphere of our planet such as; Heat-waves, polar ice melting, wildfires, droughts, and super-storms are all part of that.
ReplyDeleteI think Romm thinks that debate on climate change being real or not is "unproductive" because the facts are already present according to the researches and observance of decades and centuries past. it seems like he thinks it is too late to debate, rather, taking action toward the cause is more important to him because it will affect our planet severely otherwise.
ReplyDeleteWe should be concerned that the ice are melting in Greenland, Antarctica, and the Artic because as the ice caps continue melting, rising sea levels begin to increase and begin to become worse especially for New York City since it's surrounded by water, we slowly start to lose land every year and eventually will begin to disappear.
ReplyDeleteWe should care about the ice melting in Greenland, Antartica and the Arctic cause when the giant ice glaciers fall into the ocean they will cause the sea levels to rise. Manhattan is practically "an island" some would say, so rising sea levels could be dangerous to the city.
