Years of Living Dangerously

Here are some more questions:

  • Why is the series called Years of Living Dangerously?
  • What is "adaptation" and what are the limits of it?
  • What reactions did you have to Thomas Friedman's interview w/ Barack Obama? How have things changed since the Trump Admin?
  • How does the series show science at work?
  • What did Obama argue is the public's responsibility? Do you feel cynical about your leaders in Washington? Explain.

  1. I think the series is called years of living dangerously because there were three main countries excluded, Yemen, Bangladesh, south America, which have been and are still being deeply affected by it. They were also living in harsh conditions caused by climate change.
My reactions from Thomas Friedman's interview were as expected, because I already have know Former President's views on the climate change and the efforts he took in his time in the presidency. However, it made me realize again, how out former president thought climate change as a serious issue, because it is enormously impacting those countries and well as the whole planet collectively.

  2. Since our new president, climate change issue has taken a opposite turn quite fast. Even before winning the election, his views about climate change were not that different. Since the beginning, he has been saying it is a hoax, that it is not true and to this day he has been taking opposing action towards it's impacts. In this show, science has been the most important aspect, because the actors took a lot of help from the researchers and scientists to collect the information and evidence towards the causes and impacts in the future. They also played an important role in finding out the rates of different consequences of the impacts of climate change. I think it is a public responsibility because there are limited amount of people in the government, who will take action towards decreasing the impacts, but majority of people in the society who can collectively decrease it much faster, if taken seriously. Yes, I do believe that our leaders in Washington have self-interest that is why they are not trying to ban all the harmful sources towards climate change. I think, if they cut down the fossil fuel consumption they would face a great lose in the economy, which is just one example of it. Because, of these types of things, they are not taking necessary step to decrease climate change, which could potentially put risk on the whole planet gradually, as U.S is one of the top producers of Green house gases.

  3. I believe the series is called "Years of Living Dangerously" because we are living in an era where climate change has already gone into a major effect that now has been showing real physical danger towards the world, animals, and us humans even more for certain countries who are effected by this.
Adaptation is a process of action in where one were to adapt to their environment and surroundings in order to survive but there is always a limit towards this and it all comes down when the environment is effected whether there are droughts, or flooding's, etc. Climate change can remain crucial towards many when 3 main important things of survival is effected which is food, water, and shelter.

  4. The series shows science at work by bringing along or meeting up with known scientists that are living in these certain areas that are effected by climate change the most and they explain and show us their results and information based on their studies of their country and how it has effected them geographically, economically, and as well as health.
