After she hit one of Millie's kids Rosie felt really bad because she already experienced it (violence) and she knew how painful and humiliating it was. It brought back her bad memories and that's why Rosie regret after she did it because she was acting just like her mom and she knew that's not the kind of person she wanted to be ( Rosie perfectly knew that she was better than a violent woman).
