Class Syllabus

After reading the syllabus these are the question I have about the course.Grade is very important to everyone I guess. And I found the grading rule in syllabus that A means Excellent overall. So my question is, if someone really try hard and participate the class as well, but still can't get a nice grade in exam or assignment. Is this possible to get a A?
There is another thing I want to ask. Can I really use my phone as the textbook or dictionary? I know the professor would misunderstand sometimes if I use my phone. So I want to ask right here instead of in class to avoid the unnecessary troubles.

  1. Hi Chenglei:

I believe that it is possible for everyone to get an "A" in ENGL 101. Unfortunately, we all don't come into this course w/ the same skill levels, so some of us have to work extra hard. But I have a rewrite policy so that anyone who wants to may put the extra work into bringing up their grades.

You can use your phone when necessary. I generally know when people are engaged in the class and when they're checking text messages. As long as you don't fall into the second group (or checking Facebook, etc.), then you should be fine.
