In this particular scene of the women singing, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" it seems as if the women is trying to overlook trouble by branching off into a alternate world where there will be no problems and that seemingly, everything that is bad will get better, because there is someone watching over you.. I think that the reason Rosie Perez uses this song in the specific chapter of the story, is to give readers insight on the empathy she is trying to convey about her accident and how the nurse was there by her side.
