Class Syllabus

After reading the syllabus I have 2 questions to ask about the course. During the time we have with you in class, will you be teaching us on improving how to take specific quotes from readings for these upcoming writing assignments the right way without it being plagiarized? Somewhat hard to explain but some of us at times don't even know if we quoted correctly, or didnt inform it for the person who actually said it or if we didn't cite the works the right way and later be taken for worse in failing the course. My last question, for upcoming quizzes will there be any notification on being prepared for them to study or will they just be out of no where?

  1. Hi Jose:

I believe I understand your question. We will talk about citing info, both in class and in our library sessions. However, I would also urge you--and all of your classmates--to take responsibility. Profs don't want to fail their students over formalities. We fail students when they cheat. So, as long as you approach all of your writing activities w/ the conviction that you will be as transparent as possible about outside sources you use, then there shouldn't be any problems.

There won't be any announcements about quizzes. They're "pop" quizzes which means they're surprises. If you always do the reading, you should be fine.
